Quartzburrow Kobolds

A portrait of a blue scaled kobold in simple robes. She carries a wooden staff with a glass orb at the top, and looks to the side. She is standing on a wooden bridge in the middle of a giant geode of blue crystals.

Khan Azure Crushed-Throat, leader of the free kobold city of Quartzburrow. A prickly sort, but with an intimidating intensity about her that commands respect nonetheless.

A portrait of a blue-scaled kobold in white and yellow robes. She holds a simple wooden staff that curls into a spiral at the top, and is lifting her other hand to cast some healing magic that has some flower petal effects. She smiles slightly at someone out of frame as she gets ready to heal them.

Blueberry, a kobold member of the Church of Alenia (goddess of healing and the cycle of life) and the party's healer buddy. She's a sworn pacifist, but will not hesitate to sass you half to death if she feels it's warranted. Blueberry's a nickname, her real name is a short poem in draconic about a flower blooming in the desert.

A drawing of a kobold, Virik Quartz-Eye. He is standing in a ready stance, with his feet firmly planted despite the earth cracking around him. Stones and dust float around him, and he smiles at someone off-screen as he gets ready to launch an attack of earth magic.

Virik Quartz-Eye, a kobold geomancer who helps with Quartzburrow's mining operations. He's a little zone control monster, able to instantly build or tear down stone barricades. When he's not fighting though, he's a friendly, easygoing sort.

Residents of Tamara

A drawing of an elderly elf, Bishop Evenrest. He wears white and gold robes with red trim, and leans on a cane in one hand while carrying a golden orb-topped staff in the other. He wears a radiant crown, and smiles kindly from behind a pair of well-worn spectacles.

Bishop Evenrest, a kindly old elven cleric of the Church of Sol. Unlike his peers who live in the imperial core of the Diocese, Evenrest believes in the nurturing and healing properties of the Light. He also has cultivated a long friendship with the stone giant tribe in the area around his home in the mountain town of Tamara.

A drawing of a tiefling bartender. She appears to be middle-aged or even an early senior, with deeply tan skin and greying hair from which emerge curled black ram's horns. She is shown wiping a glass, wearing a simple dress and an apron filled with various tavern necessities like utensils and napkins.

Hospitality, matron in charge of running the Giant's Goblet tavern and inn. She's a kindly old lady whose whole family is involved in the inn's day-today, and she's very proud of them.

The Tonne Tribe

A portrait of an old, green turtle-like kobold sitting down. He wears a navy blue robe with a yellow draped scarf and holds a wrought iron scepter sized for a human, with a draconic claw and an eye-like black gem at the top. He's smiling and looking up at someone offscreen with clouded yellow eyes.

Chief Mura Tonne, an elderly kobold who leads the Tonne tribe of Deep Kobolds (kobolds living in the World Below, the realm at the heart of the world of Vereil). He's kindly and reasonable, but like most of his people he's wary of outsiders, especially heavily-armed adventurers. His badge of office is the Scepter of Nydhayl, said to be topped with the very eye of an ancient shadow wyrm.

A full-body portrait of a green turtle-like kobold with a fish tail, holding a black shield and a spear made from a large creature's claw. His armour iis purple chitin and matches the spear head. The helmet is made from a creature's skull. He looks up at someone offscreen, determined as he guards against a hit.

Commander Mask Blackshield, the leader of the Spears of Tonne - the tribe's guard and military. He's a keen strategist and implacable warrior. His shield is made with shadow-dragon scales, and has been passed down through generations of Tonne commanders.

A full-body drawing of a green turtle-like kobold with a finned tail. They hold a large Roman-style scutum shield up to cover themself, while hoisting a spear with a tip made from a bladed claw in the other. Much of their form is obscured by their armour and cloak, as they face away from the viewer.

A typical Spear of Tonne soldier. They excel at tunnel fighting, having trained to use natural chokepoints to their advantage against much larger opponents. It's said that, years ago, the Spears were able to box in and kill a Kingfissure Worm that had been plagueing the tribe's lands.

Enemies of the Party: The Church of Kibia

The party faced numerous agents of the Church of Kibia, an imperial offshoot of the larger Church of Sol.

A drawing of an elven warrior, styled to look like a trading or Tarot card. The title reads "Knight-Commander Caira Oaksong". Commander Oaksong is dressed in full plate armour with a red cape, and a red-and-white sash and tabard, though without her helmet. She stands proud with one arm behind her back, the other on the hilt of a longsword decorated with the horns symbol of the Church of Kibia.

Knight-Commander Oaksong was the first major agent of the Church of Kibia that the party encountered. She was leading a group of guerrilla fighters, who'd been tasked with assassinating the leader of Quartzburrow and destabilizing its power structure so a larger force could sweep in and retake the city for the Church. She was defeated and captured, thrown in Quartzburrow's slave pens-turned-dungeons.

A Tarot card style portrait of a fey infiltrator, labelled the Seven of Swords. They have pale eyes, dark hair, and feathered ears. They run their tongue along the edge of a thin dagger, a crazed and slightly-too-wide grin on their face. In their other hand they hold four throwing knives, and wear a pair of stilettos strapped to their thigh, totalling seven blades. They stand in front of an ajar door, as if about to make a cunning escape.

Next, the party had to contend with Sibling Ercan, a shapeshifting infiltrator sent by the zealous Bishop Farro Yol to see if subtlety could achieve what force could not. While they didn't succeed in killing the Khan, and were ultimately killed themselves, before then they managed to kill Knight-Commander Oaksong before she could be interrogated, and smuggle Oaksong's lower jawbone out of the city.

A Tarot card style portrait of an elf gunslinger, labelled the Knight of Swords. He is clad in a vaguely priestly outfit with a wide-brimmed hat and long coat, riding a pale horse in full gallop. He holds a decorated revolver with a small scope, pointing to the sky as he glares at the viewer.

After the main force of Bishop Yol's conquest arrived outside Quartzburrow, attacks on various points off entry became common. To help relieve the pressure, the party investigated, then tracked down a lieutenant responsible for a lot of the most devastating skirmishes in the upper levels of the city - Brother Nesen. He was a master of pistols, and had almost supernatural reaction speed. However, even the most skilled warrior can fall to a cunning plan, and he was outflanked, outrun, and ultimately ended by the party.

A Tarot card style portrait of a kobold, labelled the Eight of Swords. The kobold has white scales and a prominent crest on his head and back. He stares at the viewer, crouched low in an animalistic pose. He is surrounded by swords embedded in the ground, emulating the look of bars in a cage.

In the final climactic battle that ultimately ended the campaign, the party had to face off against several mighty foes. Duko Rimetooth was a monster the Church didn't create, but honed, bearing the ancestral spirit of a mighty white dragon that could possess and empower him.

A Tarot card style portrait of an elf man, labelled the King of Swords. He is dressed in silver armour with red and white robes, and carries a curved flaming longsword. He stares with grim determination at the viewer, as sparks leap between his free hand and the sword's handle. The background features a pair of trees, clouds, and butterflies, as well as a radiant halo effect around the elf's head.

Foremost among Bishop Yol's lieutenants, Brother Horiver was a powerful spellblade. Brutally honest and a self-described monster, he was able to imbue devastating spells into his blade Fetehuan to destroy his foes. While a zealot with unwavering devotion to his mission, he wasn't unreasonable, and heard the party out in parley before the battle, giving them some crucial information that might have turned the tide of the fight.

A portrait of an elven woman turned celestial. She wears gleaming white armour, with gold and silver accents, as well as red and white sashes and skirts. Her head is turned upwards and eyes closed as if in deathly repose, and the gold-decorated bone of her lower jaw is exposed. A brilliant halo limns her from behind, while blazing energy forms a sword and shield in her hands. Feathered wings wrap around and forward from her back, giving her an avenging angel appearance.

Bishop Yol's most dangerous gambit, made possible by the willing self-sacrifice of Knight-Commander Oaksong and the devious sleight of hand of Sibling Ercan. An Aimahto, a Blessed-Slain, a Martyr. An artificial angel whose power was meant to propel the Church's forces past any defense Quartzburrow or the Party could muster.
Martyr Oaksong's ultimate fate is unknown - the story ended before the fight could finish.
